GRAMMY.com Tour Diary: The Head And The Heart
The Recording Academy Memphis Chapter recently traveled from their headquarters in Memphis, Tenn., to Nashville for a concert at the Cannery Ballroom featuring indie folk band the Head And The Heart for the inaugural installment of GRAMMY.com Tour Diary, a new series featuring intimate interviews and exclusive performances that highlight the musically enriched regions of the United States and lives of touring musicians. While on the road, the Chapter visited historical music staples including Elvis Presley’s Graceland Mansion, the Stax Museum and the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, and the Country Music Hall of Fame, Ryman Auditorium and Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
Reggae/rock group Dirty Heads were the recent guests at 98.7-FM’s Penthouse, an exclusive concert series hosted by Los Angeles-based radio station KYSR-FM at the historic Hollywood Tower in Hollywood, Calif. Before an intimate crowd, Dirty Heads performed an acoustic set including “Lay Me Down,” “Spread Too Thin” and “Dance All Night.”
Prior to the performance, Dirty Heads vocalist/guitarist Dustin “Duddy B” Bushnell and vocalist Jared “Dirty J” Watson participated in an exclusive interview with GRAMMY.com, discussing the influence of rap on their music, their current tour with Matisyahu and their new album, Cabin By The Sea, among other topics.

Fronted by the Vermont-born namesake and frontwoman, Grace Potter, the collective is in the midst of playing dates on the Brothers of the Sun tour with Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw. The group self-released two albums, 2004’s Original Soul and 2005’s Nothing But The Water, before catching the interest of Hollywood Records. Subsequently, they released 2007’s This Is Somewhere and 2010’s Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, which peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard 200 on the strength of songs such as “Paris (Ooh La La)” and “Medicine.” In 2011 Potter earned her first GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “You And Tequila“ with Chesney.
